Thank you…
…ALL for catapulting us into a positive direction for the 10th annual Low Country Jazz Festival!!! Our 9th festival was indeed a major success.  All of our headliners were most outstanding.  Our festival ended on a very high note with the "Woo Woo man”, Jeffrey Osborne, who brought the house down Sunday night.  Congratulations to our team for developing a lineup appreciated by all attendees. Our commitment to the community was continued with the performance of Damien Escobar for our "Music In Our Schools" program. This year, we had the pleasure of going to North Charleston Creative Arts Elementary School where the students were very excited for the opportunity to hear and talk with violinist Damien Escobar as he shared with them his journey with the violin. The health component of the jazz festival, Jazzing with Sugar, was well attended!  Our participants were indeed a very interactive group. The session focused on diabetic foot disease and common sense dietary recommendations for diabetic patients, provided by podiatrist, Dr Jamelah Lemon and registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator, Jeanette Jordon. Drs. Henry Marion, Dean Floyd and myself, all family physicians, answered questions and gave updated information regarding diabetic care. We are already planning for our 10th anniversary festival, where we will celebrate the life of Tonisha Bell Alston who dedicated her life to Closing the Gap in Healthcare for African Americans and the underserved along with the Low Country Jazz Festival. We are paying close attention to the feedback we have received thus far in determining the line-up for the 2018 festival, which we anticipate announcing by December in hopes that you all will purchase the 3 day packages with an early bird discount. Finally, we would like to congratulate Ms. Ka'La Drayton, a second year student in the College of Medicine at MUSC as the recipient of the Thaddeus John Bell MD and family endowment scholarship. Thank you to all of our sponsors and the most respected team of Closing the Gap in Healthcare and the Low Country Jazz Festival. I appreciate all you do to make this event very worthwhile.
